THE SAMARITAN BY JOHN LARA ACT II SCENE III (PRO-OUSTER TACTICS)

THE SAMARITAN BY JOHN LARA ACT 2 SCENE 3 (PRO-OUSTER TACTICS) This scene comes in the wake of a successfully thwarted ouster motion by Mossi- Oa Tunya and Bembe faction. The vanquished Ted, Seymour and Ramdaye faction decries a more than meets the eye kind of military operation planned by Mossi  to stop the no confidence vote on the floor of the Municipal Chambers. Hooligans burnt tyres, mattresses, hurled rocks and were overly chaotic. However, as Hon. Seymour says, they would not be cowed as they would go on with the ouster plans. Ted, who had been tasked with the role of canvassing the Councillors and Aldermen reports his categorization into four groups of those he approached.  Firstly, there are the indecisive type like Hon. Ferreira (Mr. Key 🔑) who don't know which fence to sit on. Secondly, there are the headless type like the Councillors and Aldermen allied to Hon. Basdeo (Official opposition leader, Maracas Municipality) and Hon. Mossi (the Mayor, Maracas Municipality...

A SAMPLE ESSAY ON REM'Y NGAMIJE'S STORY "THE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH"

Image
Godwin Siundu (Ed), A Silent Song And Other Stories. "Street life is dehumanizing."Using illustrations from Rem'y Ngamije's story, "The Neighbourhood Watch," validate this statement .  In Rem'y Ngamije's story, "TheNeighbourhood Watch ", the street families are forced to settle for inadequate and bad food, poor shelter, bad stench, diseases and pessimism. These challenges attempt to derail their humanness.  Firstly, there is inadequate and bad food on the streets.  The Neighbourhood Watch, the ad hoc family on the streets wake up to a chorus of yawns sprinkled with stretching to suggest hunger. Elias, the senior most member of the family, uses his amiable nature on the kitchen staff in city's hotels and restaurants to beg for food. Sometimes, the staff leave out almost decaying produce for them. These include some potatoes with broken skins, mangoes which dimples at the slightest pressure and wrinkled carrots. On most ocassions, the Nei...

A SAMPLE ESSAY ON VRENIKA PATHER'S "NINEMA

Image
Godwin Siundu (Ed), A Silent Song and Other Stories "Ninema is a paragon of dignity." With reference to Vrenika Pather's story 'Ninema', write an essay to support this statement .   In Vrenika Pather's story 'Ninema', the character Ninema Ninema successfully comes out as a perfect example of a virtuous woman. Firstly, Ninema is stoic and resilient. She reaps the herbs from her garden as she is a market gardener and she has green fingers as a testament to the fact that she is successful at market gardening. She earns her living by selling the produce at the Indian market. Life is tough and when Ninema is expect to bow to the tough life, she toughens up as she is not resigned to her lot in life. Everyone knows that Ninema is facing her challenges and winning.  Secondly, Ninema relies on her own hard work for survival. Despite her physical beauty, she does not take advantage of this to earn a living. She makes heads turn when she walks, her hips sway fro...

A SAMPLE ESSAY ON GLORIA MWANIGA'S STORY 'BOYI'

Image
Godwin Siundu (Ed), A Silent Song and other Stories With illustrations from Gloria Mwaniga's " Boyi", write a composition on the effects of war. In Gloria Mwaniga's story "Boyi", from the anthology 'A Silent Song and other Stories", war comes out as monstrous with agonizingly terrible results. It leads to loss of lives, displacement of persons, trauma, radicalisation and and child recruitment into the army. Firstly, war leads to a spate of deaths and killings.  When Matwa Kei, the militia leader, demands that Boyi's father pays a land tax and betrayal tax, he offers boy to him after failing to raise the forty thousand shillings. He does this out of fear that the militia chipped off the heads of whole non-compliant families, carried off their heads and maybe ate them like Idi Amin. The torture is is inflicted with, first, the slow chopping off of the ears and feeding of worm-filled earth to the victims. The men who gather to exchange news talk ...

The Neighbourhood Watch by Rem'y Ngamije

THE PLIGHT OF STREET FAMILIES Having read and discussed the anthology 'A Silent Song &Other Stories', I strongly opine that  writing and investigative journalism are both the same sides of the coin. A reading of the stories "Cheque Mate" by Kevin Baldeosingh  and "The Neighbourhood Watch" by Rem'y Ngamije affirm this. In 'The Neighbourhood Watch', Ngamije asserts that there are existing street families on the streets. They are not necessarily blood relatives  but they are brought together by the camaraderie spirit to confront the challenges that the streets present.  The family on this story's spotlight has self-styled themselves as 'The Neighbourhood Watch'. The family is made up of Elias, Lazarus, Silas, Omagano- the only female member- and Martin. The street life has dehumanised the family and this has led them to lead an undignified place on the streets. They literally forage for food leftovers in the dustbins. Such picking is...

Welcome to my blog

Image
Hello friends, I am Ezra, a passionate teacher of English and Literature. Starting my YouTube channel and this blog is the least I can do on my voyage to lend my voice to the cumulative mitigation voices especially in schools with acute teachers of English shortages. Besides, I strongly believe that the consumerism of Literature should go beyond the students of Literature as Literature works towards discovering, rediscovering and restoring human dignity. Together we can appreciate our humanness and ensure that all humans have their dignity upheld! Welcome to my blog                      ~ Teacher Ezra
